Community & ecosystem

Compliance in Belgium is a small world with a lot of shared infrastructure: the CCB and its CyberFundamentals framework, the sector CSIRTs, the Data Protection Authority, and a growing community of GRC practitioners comparing notes on how NIS2 actually lands. I try to contribute to that world, not only bill against it. The same goes for Belgium's quantum ecosystem, which has the research strength to matter and the risk of staying a blind spot if that strength never reaches industry.

The compliance ecosystem

I spent six years inside the regulator, co-building a sector CSIRT and sitting between operators and government during incidents. That gave me a view of how the Belgian institutions work together, and it is a view I keep current: the CCB's guidance and CyberFundamentals updates, the way NIS2 supervision is taking shape by sector, and what the Data Protection Authority is actually enforcing. Where it helps, I share what I learn: in briefings, in the open parts of Abacordo, and in conversations with other practitioners who are building the same thing for their own organisation.

The quantum ecosystem

Concretely, I aim to contribute where my mix of security, governance and hands-on quantum is useful:

• The security bridge

  Connecting the quantum-safe transition (PQC, crypto-agility, EuroQCI) to the people who actually run governance and risk.

• Education and translation

  Explaining the technology honestly to non-specialist decision-makers, which is most of the adoption problem.

• Use-case work

  Helping translate candidate quantum use cases into terms that businesses and boards can evaluate and act on.

Navigating the ecosystem, and the funding

Belgium's cybersecurity and quantum ecosystem is generous to organisations that engage with it. European Digital Innovation Hubs run awareness and adoption programmes, the CCB publishes free tooling and guidance, and regional instruments such as VLAIO in Flanders and Innoviris in Brussels can support innovation and training work. Part of my role is knowing this map so you do not have to: if a programme or subsidy fits your situation, it goes on the table before we scope anything.

Active membership in this ecosystem is also how I stay current for clients. What I bring into your boardroom is checked against what practitioners are building and what supervisors are asking, not against press releases.
